A must see movie, The fastest Indian
This is an excellent movie (true story) even if you're not a gearhead. Anthony Hopkins plays Burt Munro, a fine example of an industrious New Zealander from Invercargill (There's a GasGas dealer in Invercargill!) Who modifies his 1920 Indian Scout (rated at about 43 MPH) to a Bonneville salt flats record holder at 183.586 MPH.
He did it in 1967 when he was a grandfather at 68 years old. He still holds the record for under 1,000 cc bikes and he built the machine himself in his small backyard workshop. He cast his own pistons and cylinders, made his own rods, sleeves and even made a DOHC cylinder head. Even better is the story told on his trip to this point, its quite a journey to say the least. If you owe yourself a good story, see The Fastest Indian. If you want to read a little about him check out http://www.indianmotorbikes.com/feat...unro/munro.htm Last edited by webmaster; 07-15-2006 at 06:58 PM. Reason: fixed broken link... |
