Default crank nylon counter balance weights/spacers

Hi all, dismantled my 2001 ec300 motor and found the crank assembly does not have the nylon counter balance spacers/stuffers . Is this correct for the year/ bore size or have they been left out in a previous rebuild? I'm about to send the crank for overhaul/balancing, do I need to buy some new ones, does anybody know what the effect on engine performance would be with them in? Thanks Darren

They are actually crank stuffers. They reduce the volume of the crank case to change the power characteristics..

If memory serves me correctly, they only came on the 250cc bikes.

Thanks for your input, rang my local gas gas dealer and he's sure that all capacities should have the stuffers, would like a few forum members with 300,s to confirm or deny this please. Darren

Beginning to think now from reading up on other posts and elsewhere on the net that the bikes pre 2003 where not stuffed and that's why my dealer is so sure that they should be in is that he probably never works on the older bikes. Would like to here from people with newer bikes to confirm or deny that theory. Thanks darren

I don't know if that particular year and model had stuffers or not. But if it didn't I think I would put them in. I had a 2011 XC250 that had them in it. I sold it and bought a 2012 XC250. I never could get the 12 to run like the 11 did. It seemed like it might of screamed a little better on the top end but it was a pooch compared to my 11 on the bottom end. The only difference between the two that I could find was the lack of stuffers in the 12 model.
