For Fun: 2013 XC 300E Real World Weight
Ever since I got this bike, I have thought "geez this thing is heavy." So we finally got to put it on a calibrated scale and I thought I would share this info just as a FYI.
2013 XC 300 Electric Start 1/2 tank of gas Fluids (forks, transmission, etc.) at stock levels. Stock skidder Radiator Guards Rekluse Shorai Battery Aluminum pipe guard Full wrap hand guards Everything else is pretty stock... 270 pounds. We also weighed my husband's Husqvarna TXC 450 4 stroke, which is equipped almost the same except that it has a slightly smaller tank, stock battery, flexx bars and no kickstand... 275 pounds I'm now curious what my Husky TXC 250 weighs, so I'll have to get that measurement once I'm finished rebuilding it. That bike is noticeably lighter. |

All I really care about...Is I can still pick my bike up at the end of the day, when I'm near exhaustion. I've never been too concerned about the actual number, but how the bike feels while riding. If you want to know what a heavy off-road bike feels like...take a big-bore Yami IT for a spin I have a 1976 IT400

The extra weight compared to its competition in my opinion is a part of why Gas Gas bikes are so reliable, tractable, and don't ping off every bit of trail junk you hit.
It takes on some of the 4 strokes best quality's due to it's extra weight. Without the noise or high maintenance rebuild costs and complications associated with a valve motor. We all know the 250\300 are great woods bikes. But really they are just as great used in the open desert. The straight line stability from a bike that turns so well is impressive and I really believe weight is key in how a bike handles and lasts. The modern bikes keep getting lighter and more fragile all the time.Where does it end? Keep it on 2 wheels and a Gas Gas feels lighter than most. I'll take a bike with a bit more weight if it helps the bikes traits and reliability and continue to. Roscoe

hard for me to be concerned with the weight as I came from a well farkeled XR650R...so most anything thing is light now on trails.

Wow that's 20 pounds more than I would have guessed. I sold my 2009 TXC510 because it was just to heavy. I would like to know what your TXC250 weighs when you get it back together. Thanks for posting up the real weights.

Not surprised. I posted 258 for a similarly equipped '12 with a dry tank, so the difference is in the 10 or so pounds of fuel and the Rekluse.
What's important is how it feels on the trail - light and nimble

I'm with you this weight obsession is getting old. If your dirt bike doesn't weigh at least twice as much as you do you should be able to easily pick it up off the ground. I've never heard any weight complaints about yz250s. I'd bet you money that my 2011ec250 would be within 5-8 pounds of a yz if I took all the extra stuff off and changed out the tires and tubes for the ultralite stuff that MXers come stock with. My bike would be about 215 pounds without fluids if I did all that. Fluids add 23lbs (2.5 gal fuel = 16lb, trans oil & break fluids = 2lb, water and suspension fluid = 5lb)
Bottom line is any full sized woods bike ready to ride with a side stand, head light, full wiring harness, heavy duty tires and tubes, electric start, battery, trail tech computer, built in bike lock, skid plate, pipe guard, and bark busters is going to weigh more than 260lbs no matter who makes it. |
