Reserve appears to be about .5L in my tank so that likely would not get me far

One half liter should be good for about 3 miles.

Working on the same 10KM/L you should get around 5km limping around on reserve. Not much at all. I usually carry another litre of fuel in a bottle in my backpack.

I did notice that richening the needle only a clip position even has a pretty significant impact on fuel consumption.
