Minimum tyre pressure

Just completed a day at a local enduro park, conditions were mostly mud to clay and a lot of slick clay (you could not stand up on!).

After 1 lap I let my tyres down from 13psi until there sounded like there was not much air left in the tyre so I guess about 2-3psi or 5 max.

Completed the rest of the day with much more grip don't get me wrong it was still slick but much better.

Max speed was about 30mph though usually 5-10mph and the track did not have too many surprises in to cause pinch flats, I did hit a hidden tree stump pretty hard but no puncture (I also run a HD tube wrapped in an old HD tube so should be fairly resistant)

I've raced before in similar conditions and done the same thing but stopping to let air out costs time. Again I probably left less than 5psi in front and rear and no punctures and the pressure is enough to keep the tyre on the rim.

So if you were starting a race and it looked like slick clay what pressures would you run? I'm thinking I'd be better off starting a lot of races with say 5psi, and of course if it's fast/rocky in sections I'll have to slow down but would guess I'd make up much more time in the slick bits...

Just so it's not me there was a guy struggling to get up a hill and I asked him what pressure he had he said 10, I said try letting at least 5 more out. I saw him later and he thanked me and said wow that made it so much better, much more grip.

I can't understand how an entire nation named after the language we speak can't spell correctly!!!

I think lots of people run more tire pressure than they need. My trials bike runs 3 to 4 psi front and back. Yes I know its a different animal but I still slam rocks with it. I usually run 10 to 12 psi and have gone to 8 on my dirtbikes. Lots of rocks in my neck of the woods!!

Been running the Rim Clean method for setting tyre pressue lately. Have been noticing a big improvement in both traction & handling characteristics.

I read it and I don't understand it. Or maybe I don't believe it not sure. The tyre is expected to roll 4mm up the outside? of the rim???

I don't use tubes much these days but I'm pretty sure the tyres I use (Michelin comp 3 & 4) are way too soft for less than 8 psi.
