Default EC250 '00 transmission in MC250 '05

Hi guys!

There is the possibility to buy an almost new '05 MC250 hardly broken in in good price (has been sitting at the dealer for more than a year..). For fixing the gearbox problem of my '98 EC I had to buy a complete used gearbox. I used only one gear from it so I have as a spare the two shafts with all the gears except one. Is it possible that these six speeds can be used for the MC? I understand that I need the shifting drum and maybe some fork.

Thank you for any replies!

Leon

The 05 is still a 4-speed. The 06 is a 6 speed.

I have an MC 250 and the four speed drives me NUTS!! I would love to get the six speed. BUT ITS ALL MONEY... Pray that its a six speed. If you gear it down at all your top speed really suffers.

From Leon's IP Address - it looks like he is from finland. (But I could be wrong). His bike might be a 4 speed...

Jeff is right... The only one who tried to think a bit deeper. The European MC250 '05 is a 4 speed... It can be seen from www.gasgasmotos.es too. From the parts lists it seems that the cases are the same as the 05 EC so the 6 -speed tranny might go easily in there..

In one hour I meet the dealer to try the bike in my favourite technical enduro path (full of rocks, whoops and nasty roots). It has been raining for 3 days.. If it finds traction I buy it. Then, its new 50mm Marzocchi will be up for sale if somebody wants it.

Thanks,

Leon

I recently bought a new/left over '03 MC250. Everything I've read in posts and specs on bike says it has a 4 speed trans for that year. My bike is a six speed.
Is this uncommon ??????

Hi!

Maybe the previous owner put in a 6-speed transmission from an ec. Or, the bikes going to US had it already from the factory. In Europe just this year is a 6 speed.

Leon, tanks for reply. Yeah there was no previuos owner. It was just a leftover sitting on the showroom floor (same dealer still has a brand new 03 EC 200 & 03' MC 125). I just didnt know how common it was for a '03 mc250
to have a six speed trany.
