Default 02 300 tranny

was riding today with a bud who has a 02 300 and just riding along all of the sudden the back wheel locked up.. he said it was very hard to get back to neutral, but it did.. we stopped and he went and got his trailer and took it home..
do these have tranny issues like that ?

Thumbs up tranny

my 99 300 had an issue! it would either stay in one gear or not go in,,,it had VERY low miles and before i split the cases and checked shift forks and such i noticed a lot of play in the shift shaft! pull and push it to see if you have the same scenario! what i did was cut a small piece of p.v.c. tubing and installed it between the shifter itself and case (kinda float it in there)! cut it a lil smaller so it doesntpush against the seal or the shifter! after i did it i rode the bike for the rest of its life like that and never had another problem! not sure if thats your issue but it may help you! good luck and git 'er goin!

Sticking shift scorpion, not uncommon, will cause a no shift condition. I always remove the shaft on a new bike and check/deburr the parts as they are stampings. Locking up is something else and very rare. The early bikes used a plain bearing trans design but even those were generally good. The trans itself is very sturdy, I've had a few apart including a high hour 125 and all looked new.

I would check to see if the impeller shaft exploded. Mine did the same thing this weekend. I took it apart and found that there was a hole in the inner clutch cover and the shaft and gear was mangled on the water pump.
