Installing S3 FWW on ec300 race
So, while checking everything over on my 2012 EC300 race that I just purchased, I removed the S3 660 gram FWW and flywheel to get a look at the stator. All looks fine and clean in there and there's no leaking crank seal. However, I'm starting to question myself about re-installing the weight. Is there a particular way it goes on in relation to the flywheel? Like, timing marks or something similar just to keep it balanced? Or can I just bolt it back on without having to worry about balance issues and/or the orientation of both the flywheel and the weight? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Flywheel is keyed, it can only go on one way. Flywheel weight is uniformly machined and should not require any balancing.

Ok. But there's a couple counter sunk holes in the Fww that look like they match the holes on the FW.

Better get us some pictures to be sure. Holes are usually only for a holding tool when you need to torque things up tight. I assume your FWW just replaces the standard flywheel nut.

I'm just Ganna leave it off now. It's way too heavy anyway. 23 ounces .
I'm Ganna get a 12 ounce weight. |

2K3 ignition is heavy enough, especially if coupled up with an o-ring chain, HD tube and 120 tyre.

I have the s3 weight on my bike with 2k3 ignition, and for the slow speed stuff I love it! I bought it because on hillclimbs etc when grip was a minimum, I had to be too gentle on the throttle to stop it spinning out, as once it did, the revs just climb uncontrollably and the bike loops out (and lands on my head!!).
So far I've found no negative from installing the weight, the bike has better resistance to stalling and far better manners when grip is minimal, I can still spin her with a feather of the clutch, but its on my terms now haha. I'm still faster than all my mates on a motocross track too

Have you spaced out the cylinder to get the top of the piston flush with the bottom of the ports, and machine thebsquish / correct the compression ratio? That plus the flywheel weight gives the best of both worlds in my opinion.

Maybe a dumb question,do you have to run a flywheel weight?
