Default 2020 Betas

I must say, they actually look good now.

I am still wary of the Sachs suspension and no kick starter. Otherwise they look like great bikes.

I understand the concern about the Sachs suspension. I had one of the original 300RRs and the suspension was positively dangerous.

However, I rode a 2019 200RR a couple of weeks ago and was amazed how good it was. I have ordered a 2020 200RR off the back of that.

As far as the kickstart goes, I'm not at all worried. The kickstart lever knuckle on my 300RR siezed up as I only used it about 3 times when it was new and never needed it again.

I rode most of the beta models at the beta demo ride this spring. I was very comfortable on the 250 race edition and the 390 thumper. The suspension was fine but not at the same level as kayaba. I noticed a slight twitch at high speed turn in on the two stroke but not on the thumper. Overall the Betas are great and I think the Sachs forks were very good. Beta offers an Ohlins fork upgrade.

There are a lot of small changes gone into the 2020 models. Further improvements to the suspension as well as a longer swingarm on the 200 and a balancer shaft on the 250 and 300. Frame is new, tank is larger and the back end is one part a la Husqvarna.

Building the mapping switch into the front of the tank seems silly as it will be awkward to get to in motion and you will need to disconnect the electrical connector when you take the tank off. Not sure what they were thinking with that.

I keep looking at the Beta Riders Forum and I don't think anyone has noticed that the 2020 bikes have been announced.

The insides of the sachs suspension are still as poor quality as the sachs I had on my 2011 gasgas. Change the oil very often and you may get a couple seasons out of them before the anodizing is gone. I would never buy a used Beta for the same reason. The new ones work nice, but they don't have the longevity of the other suspension brands.

This is my concern with the Sachs suspension. Longevity, not performance. Although with the 18+ gasser it is nice not to have to factor suspension tuning (other than spring rates) into the price tag.

I think they are brilliant bikes over all and the counter balancer makes them even more attractive to me. But, apart from having no money available, I will never ever buy a bike in its first year. So I will start to become amazed once it has proven it's reliable.

Bought a new 2017 KTM 300 in 2016, its Mikuni carb was crap and gave me a hard time. I learned nothing, bought a 2018 TPI, one of the first in 2017. The bike was an incrdible lemon which I sold after only 8hrs and several visits at the dealer.

The Sachs forks, however, really put me off! Test rode a 2017 and the forks were way behind everything I have ever ridden and I am old and slow.

I own a 2019 Beta 200RR. Still not much time on the bike and once I feel the suspension is broken in I will need a basic service along with a revalve.
Personally I think the forks are pretty good and I know once setup properly they?ll be even better. I?ve Ridden since mid 80?s, been in KYB, Showa, WP. These are not the worst by a long shot. As for the premature wear? That could possibly happen. I hope not but you never know...
