I once broke a swingarm on a Yamaha I was riding here at my place. I landed hard and all Hell broke loose!!! That will keep you awake for the rest of that day and well into the night!!!

I just picked up a swingarm for a friends KTM,, He snapped his near the axle.. His was older.. but still snapped,, the KTM swingarms are high $$ used as they seam to be in high demand.. Odd,, its hard to sell GG swingarms,, rarely does one need to replace one.. I'm changing the one out on my 97 to a newer one just cause they are nicer looking..

Fatigue and work hardening of the alloy. That swingarm has changed design more times than I can remember since I had my last KTM. You have to wonder if they suspected a problem with some of the designs over time.

I know we are all gasgas addicts, but somewhere in the photo Gallery I had spotted a photo of a Sixdays with a broken swinging arm in the last years ISDE in Greece! So sometimes GasGas swingarms do break as well.

Yes. That was Billy Burns, which eliminated his chance of getting a medal last year. The good news is that Billy rode this year and I think he earned a silver medal.

This is all good fun for "most" of us. Some take the (mostly orange) bashing a bit to seriously though.

I had a Honda CR250 that cracked the swingarm.

If you land on a rock hard, all bets are off, anything can break then, or, it can be stressed and break later. Thats how Billy Burns broke his. Its fatigue and failure during normal use thats bad, up to a reasonable service life for the bike.

Default GasGas carnage

Oops...

Broken frame. Look closely behind the radiator cap for another break in the downtube...

Splinted it up to get it out of the woods and back to camp...

Why do my bars feel funny?

Now, it is a GasGas, but it's a Pampera so it doesn't really count

By the way, I accept full responsibility for the damage.

I also saw some reports of cracked steering heads on the new aluminium YZ 250f Yamahas in Thumpertalk.
