Been hearing bits and pieces about the French winning overall and oz not being happy about it. Can you shed some light on the drama?

Apparently the Aussies were called up for their second place on the podium and stood on the top spot instead, then walked off stage in protest presumably? when they'd finished their celebrations.

Having never walked in their shoes/boots I'm not going to judge them one way or the other

What actually happened that lead them to believe they were robbed of first place?

Sorry, it's in German, but the write that these riders missed a checkpoint when they tried to find a way through some sections where other riders got stuck.

This did Matt!!

I haven't read the link but it's my understanding that a heap of people missed a check point, and then the powers to be have decided to 'let it slip, pending review'... Included was France with three drivers (Marc Bourgeois, Anthoni Boissiere, Jeremy Joly)

We do not know the details. My understanding is that the check was poorly marked.Enough so that most of the top first riders through the section missed it.These are world class offroad pros.At some point the section was sorted out for subsequent riders.

If the Oz trophy team made it through the section without problems before changes were made. Then they can whine some, if that's how they want to be remembered. If the section was sorted out before they came through, which I believe is the case.

Then they got beat and really I have no respect for a team who wants to win by default or by the misfortunes of others.

Typical in this day .

If the course was not marked properly then how come only 8 WT riders missed it ? Any other rider got penalties ? Weren't the Oz riders in the same "front" pack as the others ? Some missed it and some didn't...

Because they quickly changed and marked it properly. So only the first 8 riders were fortunate enough to ride the unmarked section.

Another reason they dropped it was because the route those guys took was actually longer than the way they were suppose to go.

Humm... maybe that was not the only reason. FIM's actions over the last years in WEC make me doubt that was the real reason. They made WEC so bad that I turned my attention to GNCC...
