Default Higher pressure radiator caps

Anyone use a higher pressure cap on their 300 to lessen any potential boiling issues? I'm really just wondering here even though the Gasser 300's don't seem to have quite the boiling issues of the 300 KTM's. If I had a 300 KTM it would get a cooling fan for sure.

Stock on my GG 300 is a 1.2 which surprised me but KTM caps fit perfect and come in 1.4-1.8 pressure ranges. I have a 1.8 but don't know if I should install it

Not sure if it would be ok for the GG cooling system but if you go from a 1.2 to a 1.8 it raises the boiling point over 20 degrees (at least water) but also increases the psi inside the system from 17psi to 26psi which might not be healthy for the water pump seal.

Just curious

The cap is a "safety net" for the cooling system.
If you go with too high of a pressure cap, you will blow the water pump seals.

1.4 is fine, but I doubt I'd go to a 1.8.

Do you have a LTR impeller.

I've always ran the 1.4s with no problems. The GG 300s are not prone to boilover like the KTMs, so start with the stock cap. Mine only spit a little in a bad mud race at a slow pace, and then not much at all.

The GG water pump seal is nothing like on most other bikes. Its a high speed graphite/ceramic industrial pump seal. The design is such that the higher the pressure the tighter the moving sealing surfaces are forced together.

i havent boiled mine (yet) there is one trail that we ride that everyone else has to make several attempts to climb, and my gg was the only bike that didnt boil, or lose momentum.
i was with a new ktm450 a young crf450 and an older yz all three got steaming hot, my gasser was warm...i run the stocker.

My 99 with the stock cap never once spit coolant, it went up into the overflow a couple times but that was it. My 02 without the overflow bottle and with the 1.4 cap and with the ltr impeller boiled lots of times. Time will tell on the new one.
