Default stearing lock

my 04 450 fse stearing lock will not engage the lower tripple tree stem, when the key is pushed in and turned. has anyone elsse had this problem?

It might not have the the part in it that locks the steering stem. Has it ever worked? If it at one time worked it might be the part on the steering stem has loosened.

Mine doesn't work either. Not really an issue so I haven't really looked into it.

i was just wondering if this is a common problem with the 450. i am going to check this out this winter

For the US market I believe the steel sleeve required for the steering lock to work is shipped loose. I have the one for my '03 - somewhere....

the way my other bikes lock is, when the lock is pushed init has a pin on the end which goes into a hole in the stem. is this so for the GG?

GG uses an aluminum stem. The steel sleeve I referred to slips over the stem, is held by set screws and has the hole you mentioned for the steering lock.

Depending on the year of your bike - the steering lock "collar" comes in a baggy and is not installed on the bike. My bike came with the keys, the collar, and the nipple to install the vent on the pv chamber in a baggy. The steering head needs to be disassembled to install the steering lock collar. Without it installed - the steering head will not lock.
