A new problem with starter
Hi all,
I just replaced numerous components of my 2018 ec300 starting system as it stopped working. Its still not working. I can see where the problem is. The shaft that has the gear on it that makes contact with the Bendix is not spinning. The gear at the starter motor end is spinning but it is spinning freely of this shaft. I pressed the gear on there when replacing components and thought it was strange that it could spin separately from this shaft. I have attached the parts diagram, part number 16 is the shaft I am speaking about and the gear spinning is part 17. Does anyone know how to attach the gear to the shaft properly so the shaft spins with it? thanks JC

There are videos of folks with this problem. They welded the gear to the shaft.
