Help on installing kick start gears

I received my new kick start gear and ratchet today from Hall's. I really like those guys. Asked the parts guy what I needed, he was not sure so he put a tech on who has the same bike as mine. He says it's really not that common ( he's done a couple on 07's) except on later models because of a case hardening issue on the gears which was solved.
My question is anyone give me the lowdown or blow by blow on putting the new gears in? I am decent with a wrench but a little primer would be great!
