Default Gasser Newbie- just bought FSE400EC!!! Any advice?

Hi, I just bought an 03 EC400 FSE that Ill pick up on Tuesday. I'm familiar with bikes in general, anyone have any advice that pertains to this specific model? Browsing the threads it looks like electrical connections are an issue, anything else to watch for? Any mods worth doing? How about somone who can advise me on suspension set up/spring rates (Im 6'5" and 300lbs!). Thanks for your help! -chad

GOOD LUCK! I has an '03 450 a few years ago... I liked the bike when it ran. Look for the fuel lines to come loose at the pump (on the top rear of the gas tank) Invest in a battery tender and lightweight motor oil! It really helps. The starter is a bad joke, and don't even think it can be kick started, 'cause most of the FSE's will not kick start. The decompressor on the cam is inadequate from the factory, and a few guys have welded a small bead on to the existing decompressor to get the cranking pressure down to a reasonable level. The fork springs were too weak even for my 150 lbs, so you'll have to get some new springs up front and most likely in the rear too. Lots of wires rub on the frame / sub frame in lots of places, just take some time to look for problems BEFORE they leave you stranded. The motor won't self destruct, so don't worry about bouncing off the rev limiter! Enjoy the ride!
