We'll see Mark.. Its less than 5 months old. Fitted @ 159hrs. Now 208hrs. Only 49hrs old!

Everything else is mechanically in order. I can't see that it being a mechanical fault.

Ugh! Hopefully you weren't chucked off when the shaft broke.

It jammed into the spring retainer and bound up. I actually still had clearance over the rear wheel, albeit a ridig back end. Once on the side of the trail I pulled the linkage and spring etc to determine what really happened. Then trailered it home.

I'm really grateful that nothing else happened, no further damaged to bike or more importantly me. Considering I was pattering along in the bottom end of 6th gear (around 80km/hr) when it let go things could have been a whole lot worse.

Ever seen this happen Steve? Any idea what may have caused it?

Glad yo hear you are OK, and I hope Ohlins takes care of that. They should want to inspect it to ensure they don't have bigger issues.

Looking at the picture it appears that it fractured at the root of a thread, so likely some poor processing on their part or corrosion that induced the failure. A more typical failure might have been a pretzeled shaft. Hopefully they will tell you after doing a full metallurgical assessment (and after they do a full inspection and rebuild done on your shock )

One should expect more for the $$, don't you think? Never saw anything like that, just an occasional clevis.
