I ain't much good at decoding these VIN's.
I google searched your VIN and this listing came up.
Bore and pipe certainly looks like a 300.
Is this your bike?

Just behind the gear shifter there is a polished spot. it will either say ec20= 200cc, ec25= 250cc, or ec30=300cc

Default VIN decoder Q:

Hi folks. Got a bit of a dilemma with the DMV in the great state of Komiforna.
Trying to title and register a 2005 Pampera with a VIN of VTRPP2800E0*****
The "E" in the 10th character denotes a 2005 model year per GasGas logic.
According to CA DMV that is either a 1984 or 2014 per their understanding.
They are requiring me to take the bike to the Highway Patrol office for
examination. What is the chance that the CHP officer won't know the GasGas
rules of VIN designation? Pretty good in my opinion. Thus causing more
confusion...
Is there a "GasGas" document that I could copy or get a hold of that I could
take with me to the inspection that would explain in official terms gasgas's
use of VIN codes?
I do have the original New York title stating the bike was sold new in 2005.
CA knows it all and rather stubborn to admit when they are wrong or ignorant.
Thanks for any suggestions or help.
Cheers, Jeff

Jeff.
Tell them that they are not "wrong", but that the book has incorrect data.
Then explain that the problem stems from the Spaniards at GasGas who always felt that they knew a better way of doing things; only coming around in 2002, when they used a "C" for the tenth digit to denote that that was a 2002 model, and each subsequent year had a successive letter, making your 2005 have an "E" for a tenth digit.
If that doesn't work, then ...
Maybe print out a post from the forum that says this.
or
Maybe they would accept a statement from a dealer as the proof they need.

I'll write you a letter, if they will accept something from a former dealer.

Good Luck and Good Riding!
Jim

Default VIN Stickey

Thanks Jim for your thoughts. I really doubt our local DMV would accept
a copy of a forum post as proof of fact. It's possible, but, I also have
doubts that a letter from a former dealer would hold much weight either.
Unless it was on an official "letter Head" type form or an MSO. That might
convince them.

A couple months ago when I trailer'd the bike to DMV. I did not have the
original NY title with me. Old GF Betsy still had it.
I may go back and see if the guy remembers me and would change the
form or do a re-VIN inspection with the correct manufacture date. Worth a try.

Otherwise it is 3-4 months wait to get an appointment with the CA. Highway
Patrol. They are "official" inspector in CA whenever there is confusion at
the DMV.

The last, and possibly best option, would be to have Betsy sign a DMV
bill of sale transferring the existing NY title, (with her Signature on the back)
over to me. Then proceed with the title and bike in hand back to DMV.

Cheers and it's good to see that you are still around. Too bad the era of ID.
SpodeFests have come to an end.

It sounds like you have a good plan.
I'm glad to see that you are still around, also.

Good Riding Jeff!

I just bought a Gasgas 280 txt pro and is uncertain if the person selling it knew the right age on it. According to what I managed to search up my bike is a 2001 and not a 2006 as he claimed.

Vin is

VTR GG 280 211010166

Letters indicate a gasgas that much I understand and then 280 for the cc. But rest I?m not so sure about.
