Disingenuous like:
My ktm boils over after ten minutes! The Sachs suspension on my beta is shit! My Harley leaks oil! We have got to stop acting surprised about well documented issues. My 2011 gets started in the morning with the kicker and then the rest of day it starts with the button. The 2018 starter issue was documented in a thread that is now closed. People who like the bike know the starter is an issue. Just yen it out. |

I didn't know that was a thing so I didn't ask, I will at the next one.

Apparently what happened is that the ground? (i think) wire was of too small of a gauge to allow the amps to flow through the starter to spin the motor. Once the wire was changed out to a larger size the current flow was sufficient to spin the engine. Also, many people aren't aware that lithium batteries cannot go from cold and unused to full amperage flow without being "primed" first. I was actually just having this conversation with a member on another forum. He was unaware of this specific downside to lithium batteries in cold weather.

I heard an anecdote from my buddy whilst out riding yesterday on my '18 EC250 (he on his shop demo '18 EC300) -
A un-named Australian pro rider rode an '18 EC300 recently & said the stock supension was better out of the box than his full factory Mattighofen rig. My bike has 8hrs & starts every time on the button, in or out of gear. The suspension is awesome. I don't know what the clickers are at, I haven't checked & I don't care. I was a Beta fanboy (I had KYB's up front on my '14 RR300) til I bought an '18 Gasser. Never liked 'em before - suspension, funky riding position, heavy, etc. Best bike I've had. |

A working e start would be a big part of deciding to buy a new gasser or not for for me. I am fine with it as a "restarter" but when I'm stone tired teetering on a steep side hill, for 9K i'd like that button to work. I know you can kick it, I am on a kick start only bike now and I don't let that stop me from riding anything, but I paid a lot less for that kicker only bike... Everything else about the gasgas has me drooling though... |

The GasGas starter is fine. No issues other than the initial wire gauge problem which has been resolved

I'll add that it has been found that if you replace the lithium ion battery from the new gassers with a cheaper alternative you will almost certainly experience negative side effects. 2 stroke motors require significant amperage to spin over due to typically not having a decompression system. If you ever decide to change your battery out a high quality unit will be a must. I only know this because of some testing a friend did.
