Default Back on a Gasgas

After a frustrating 12 months trying to sort out my 2007 EC200
( see underpowered EC200 ) back in 08' and spending until now on a CRF250R and a KTM250SX, I have finally gone back to the brand that I have always admired....so, Gasgas number 4 is a brand new 2011 EC300 Six Days which I have only picked up this week and will run it in tomorrow. I am sure that I won't be having any performance problems with this one, ( the other two that I owned were both EC250 ).

I am after a bit of advice on the best jetting for this one and would appreciate any input. Not even sure what the standard jetting is at the moment, but history has taught me that it will be too rich everywhere.
( 38mm )

Geoff

RIP Mika Ahola

Fuel, Premix Ratio, Temp, RH, Altitiude, and prefered riding style (smooth or hit)

There is alot of info in the Intake/Carb - 2 stroke section regarding the 2010/2011 bikes. They prefer to be jetted leaner than the older models.

The old straight taper needles CCK etc still seem to work well.
NOZI, N3EJ/N3CJ, and NEDJ/N3CJ have all been used with good results.

I'm 98RON 50:1 GRO, 30C, 50%-100%, 300M-1000M and have found my favourite setup for these conditions to be 42 N3CJ#2 172

Thanks Jakobi for the reply. The first ride did reveal that it is way too rich everywhere, so I have dropped the pilot to 40, the main at 175, I have also lowered the float level and have ordered an N3EJ needle. I think that these changes will make all the difference.

Did you land the special N1EF like everyone else has too?? What clip pos did they deliver it in?

With the stock needle I had to run at clip 1 but even then had to wind the idle adjustment in fully to get a really low idle, and the bike was super smokey and loaded in the lower revs.

same as yours, on the top clip with 42p, 178m & float level too high. It is sad when you have to hit a rock with a 300 just to get the front wheel off the ground ! The bike is road licenced and I guess they have to play it safe just in case I did take it on the road ( never will ).
Still waiting for the N3EJ to turn up, but should be a whole lot better.

Hope you get her singing soon!

I had a little play again today.. As I seem to do almost every other week.. Its a good excuse to ride around the yard while furthering my understanding of the different jets, needles, diameters etc. Swapped out the N3CJ#2 for a N3CH#2. Only slightly richer on the diameter of teh straight section. Then had to drop the pilot from a 42 to a 40. Could probably go to a 38 tbh. Very minor change but has made the bike feel a bit stronger/torquier in the lower revs.

My personal opinon is that the 40P and W diameter needle provide the best balance for this bike with the #7 slide. Easy starting, good power, little to no smoke or spooge. Unfortunately I don't have an N3CW to run in clip 2. EW#2 is a bit too rich at 1/4 throttle, N3EW#1 rips nuts but is too close to the line for comfort. I am running an S3 head with the high high compression insert though so thats something else to take into consideration.

Post some vids when you get her going right! Would love to see what WA has to offer.

all the trails that we ride are all single track and fairly snotty so I am looking for torque with snap out of corners more than tapped in 6th. A friend of mine has a few videos on youtube...franzmoser3 ( perth trail ride ). I was not at these rides, but it will give you some idea of the terrrain.

I just posted up a quick vid in the pics avd vids section of the stuff i usually ride. Generally single track through rainforest/pine. Exposed rooty rutty sections. Log hops etc. Most of my riding I'm lucky if I can tap out 3rd gear! Anything more than that generally becomes 'transport' sections.
