300 jetting
Sorry,for another jetting thread. .
I took carb apart to check float height, jets, etc. Has NEDJ #1,38,168 I am thinking NEDJ #2, 40,170 to start with for my 30-45 degree,300 to 1000ft. Am I way off thinking this? Would it be a good idea to try NECH or ? What jetting are other pacific north west 300 riders using? Also where is a good online source for needles,in stock? Are they in the P.U.,T.R.,or W.P.S. catalog,I haven't looked yet.

How does it run how it is?
Dave at TSP here in Australia just setup a 2013 model EC300R after modifying the head. Tuned it on the Dyno and ended up at 38 NEDJ#3 168. He wasn't sure how it would be on a stock head, but the modified one had no issues running it. My advice, ride it as is and then look to address the things you don't like. Going to a 40P and 172 main would be 'safe'. |

... based on your elevation and temps. I'd adjust the needle to -2 as well. Don't let the vent hoses ruin your day - you can actually spin that carb far enough around to get the socket head screws holding the cap on out from the left side of the bike (as opposed to trying to snake a tool into the frame gusseting)

I'm not sure what the x-over is for it but I run the LTR needle in both our bikes with 48 pilot and 180 mains. The older bikes seem to like that set-up in this area.
Do a search or look at the jetting sticky, I think the needle is a common Yamaha part but can't remember.

Needles
What would change the characteristics of the bike? from my Nedj to say N3ch, or what other needle? Looking at the chart, I still have trouble deciphering some needles. I can figure out some, but others baffle me. i.e. nedj-ok, but n3ch ? where do you find the 3 on the chart.

You won't find any of the OEM needles on a chart. You will find the comparison between the N3Ex/N3Cx needles and diameters in either a ktm manual or a yahama one. The suzuki needles, in a suzuki manual .
What you can carry over between the OEM needles is that the last letter indicates the diameter of the straight section. The length of the straight section, the taper profile including number of tapers and angles, the clip positions, don't really cross over from one brands needle to another. Also depending on the taper profile some will provide more/less fuel as they approach the needle tip. Obviously this changes the fuelling requirement of the main jet. |

jetting
Thanks for the info. I guess it will take more searches and reading to understand. And some testing on my own. So is the Nedj a lean to rich needle? triple taper

Affirmative. It has a reasonably decent straight length so the diameter makes a different up to around/past 1/8th throttle. The J is quite lean in diameter also. The 3 tapers are very progressive where they start of leanish and then add more and more fuel at each taper. They supply fuel pretty much right through to WOT.
