Default Buying a bike out of state and registering in CA?

Hey guys,
Looking to buy a GasGas and most of the used ones I can find are out of state with just the MSO. Will I run into any issues @ the DMV? Besides the regular transfer fees, will I be hit with any other fees? Not looking to plate anything.. I just want my green/red sticker.

Some friends are telling me to avoid buying a bike out of state b/c it's a huge hassle?

Any information would be appreciated

Purchased a couple bikes from oos, the registration process shortened my life by a few days....But this was due to the vin's not being CA friendly

Thanks for the reply. Any idea what makes a VIN# CA friendly?

I actually have the VIN and I'd like to check it out before I plop down the cash.

I picked up my GasGas out of state, the VIN on the frame and motor were all good with the DMV. Since my is older, I have a GREEN STICKER! I had to take the bike to the DMV for inspection of the VIN, that was back in 2000. I think it's the 9th digit, either a "3" gets a green sticker, and a "c" get red....or there all getting red now....urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I have no idea any more.
What are you getting?

Yep, just checked the DMV website and it says "If your OHV has a "3" or "C" in the eighth position of the vehicle identification number (VIN) then your vehicle will be issued a red sticker." My VIN# has a C so it looks like I should be good for a red sticker. Is that the CA format or is there something more to it?"

So it looks like I've got a red sticker. I was curios if that's it though? Do I need to check anything else?

I'm thinking about picking up a 2011 GG 200. Though as a recreational rider and somewhat of a novice. I'm not sure if I deserve such a nice bike!

You don't deserve that bike I'll take that red sticker 200 off your hands and you can have my trusty green sticker 200

Way to go! Are you up in the Nor. Cal area?

Good luck

I'm still pretty new to moto.. (though I've been racing mountain bikes for awhile now.) I'm not sure how pleased I'll be after constantly dropping the bike.

That being said, I'm in Davis, CA. Perhaps we should meet up sometime if you feel like riding with a beginner..

Sent you a PM!

No worries my friend. Davis is close.........Stonyford is a hop-skip and jump away from Davis. My buddy lives over in El Snob and he also has a GG 300 and we ride when ever we can. Let me know when your going to get your bike and I'll be more than happy to link up and ride.

I responded to your PM.

Thanks
