I would agree you should probably keep the cranks and weights together as from the GG factory.

Thanks zman. Swapping cranks now. Keeping weights paired with respective cranks.

Does the '99 engine still have the counter balancer installed?
I am guessing the different weights on the cranks is because of this.
The '02 motor does not have the balancer.
I would check into this swap further before continuing.
You might try and private message Jim Cook, he used to own Smackover
motorsports and is a guru on GG bikes.

99 motor was bottom end only with few clutch side parts.

Both cases look identical (02 and 99). How can one identify counterbalanced vs not motor?

Evenweight = counterbalanced and uneven weight= not counterbalanced?

If I get it wrong, it vibrates like holy heck?

I thought GG ended the counterbalance in 1998.

Here is a picture of my 98 motor with the balancer shaft.
above and to the right of the stator. It is possible that the enduro
bikes stopped using the balancer in 99. I thought it was 2000.
I think the quad bike motors used the balancer for several more years.

Thanks slocalspode! Do you have partial or full weight installed behind crank nut and gear on clutch side of crank?

That is the magnetic flywheel that corresponds to the Ducati stator coil in the metal ignition cover. It serves dual purpose as a flywheel weight.

My 2000 does not have a counter balancer.
