Need Protection
I'm Needing Skid plate, bark Busters ,And Radiator Guard.
Ive heard the hyde plates are a pain to install, are there any good aluminum plates? I was leaning toward Acerbis hand guards (the plastic Rally ones) Any opions on these? and as far as radiator guards, Force,Flatland,or unibiker? Any thoughts on these? |

Everyone likes different "protection stuff" so here is my .02.
1. Skid plate, Uath Sport Cycle has a good one! I"ve been using it for about 8 years now. I run strips of door trim insulation under my frame where the skid plate come in contact with the frame, the same for the brackets that hold the plate to the frame. I do this to cut down on vibration and it also help with noise reduction during sound checks! I also use a copper anti-seize on bolts, to ensure that when I need to remove the plate, I have no problems. The only problem with this plate is, if you don't remove it to change the tranny oil, it will make a mess. I don't mind removing the plate to change the oil, it give me a chance to inspect the under side of the bike / motor. http://utahsportcycle.com/store/gasgaspic.htm 2. Hand Guards, I like the Moose Aluminum Bark Busters, With E/E Deflectors and this bracket to mount to the bars. http://www.gofasters.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=322 I have used the Acrebis plastic guards, once and only once! The result was a broken collar bone. It was about 29 degres out side during an enduro and I smacked a pine tree limb in 3rd gear WFO, the guard was frozen it shattered the limb pinned the front break and the rest was painfull! 3. Rad Guards....I don't use them, sorry no help

Thanks for the reply Rick .
That Skid plate looks fine to me. Just ordered one. What is the need for the offset clamp with the moose barkbusters ? Dont they come with a mount that sticks out from the bar? |

The offset clamps provide room for the clutch hose as it exits the slave cylinder, the same with the front brake hose and cylinder. I have found with these clamps there is no excess bending / kinking of the clutch and brake lines, they remain in the intended locations.

I personally much prefer the Cycra Probends to the standard handguards.

My preference on handguards are the kind that keep room available on the bars. I'm using Fastway guards, they have the ergo bend at the grips, and attach at the handlebar mount, leaving space on the bar, and making installation a snap.

The HYde is the way to go in my opinion. Get the combo unit, as long as you keep it tight on the bike it will offer way more protection then others. Vid from today working the skid plate,

I have the Hyde plate without the pipe protector and it was pretty easy to install. I can't recommend the MecaSystem skid plate as I thought it was junk, interferes too much with the shifter and brake levers and bends really easy. However I do like their rad guards for side impacts.
