FWIW, when i was looking last year, I found about half dozen pairs of "used once or twice" Alpinestars Tech 8's on various Craigslist sites selling for between $200 and $300 (MSRP is $450).

I bought a pair like new, used once for 45 minutes in the black w/ red like I wanted to match my GG for $200.

I know it is a bit late, and i am also a believer in the Gaernes but for others looking, i have heard only good things about the TCX boots

I love my TCX's. Had them for 2 years and are the best boots i've worn. I had tech 8's before the TCX's and can honestly say the oxtars are better boots! You can find the on ebay for under $150.

I am riding with SG10s now and right out of the box...perfect

still have a pair of TCX's that are three yrs old and other than the sole...have held up better than most boots Ive seen
