Its much less noticable on the 250 than the 300, and unless the jetting is clean it can be masked as well. Sometimes I bump my switch and don't even notice it. I beleive Mark or Steve from Gofasters posted the difference at one time, try a search. It was not in the form of a timing curve however.

Any comments on what year/ignition came with this option? I've got a 2004 DE 300 (2k2 stator) and am assuming this wasn't on it. The Kokusan CDI is the same for both the 250/300 and is where the 'switch' would be but not sure if this CDI has that option.

On the KTM's the switch retards the advance curve about 1000 rpms; one of the engine builders I've read about actually runs his race bike in the 'rain' mode so his rev-out happens later (more top end).

On my previous '07 EC250, the difference was very subtle as GMP noted. I think one mode was regular and the other a placibo.

I tended to leave it in sunny mode to be a happy guy when riding. I was afraid of pushing the rain button and ruining a good day of riding if the rain gods let it pour rain.

I may be confused. But, isn't the "rain" mode a completed circuit and the "sun" mode an open circuit?
On my bike, I removed the map switch and left the two wires unhooked.

There is no mode switch on the new bikes. Do they match the "rain" (or the "sun") setting of previous bikes? Or do they have a completely different ignition mapping?

The new bikes do have 2 ignition modes. I think the switch is located on the left side radiator hose for transport. My 2011 xc 300 has it mounted on the bars from the dealer. If your 2011 is missing it I would find out why.

Even if there is no switch, it will still be an option on the cdi, should be 2 short wires that come out from the cdi, connected or broken is either mode, I think plugged in is sun, but iv been wrong before.

Thanks, I just had a look and it's mounted on the rad hose behind the left shroud. I was expecting to see it on the bars.

On my 2007 Pumpkin 300 the "Sun" mode is a closed circuit. Mine didn't came with the map switch, instead under the tank there's a connector to change the ignition curve. For "performance mode" socket connector connected and for "soft" socket connector disconnected. Does GasGas also uses the Kokusan CDI ?

Ok. I checked my mode switch.
SUN complete circuit.
