Are you married? I usually get a headache on the way home from a long day of riding too.

I think this is pretty common. If I don't swallow a couple of Ibruprofen after an enduro I get a headache a couple of hours later. Pretty sure it's concentration tensing the neck & face muscles. I don't get it trail riding because I'm more relaxed and there's plenty of breaks. It doesn't seem to matter how much or what I drink although if you dehydrate it'll be much worse. 3 - 5 hours of racing is a lot of concentration! Sometimes after a very tiring race, when I go to bed, I find myself still riding the course in a semi dream state
The wife just loves me to describe every detail of the race while she's trying to get to sleep. I find that helps me to relax, she seems pretty tense after for some reason? I try telling the dog too but he just groans and puts his paws over his eyes. |

You need to start drinking the beer as soon as you are done riding.

For the body to uptake fluid effectively, you will need to add both sugar and salt. The bodys ability to uptake fluid is significantly increased if you add sugar and salt. This is essentially what all the sports drinks are.
An easy mix is half coke cola and half water with about a teaspoon of salt for 3 liters. The salt does not improve the taste at all !, but is needed. I leave the drinkbag in the freezer overnight so the stuff is very cold, make it easier to drink. I suffer badly from cramps, but the painkillers usually fix this. The fitter I am the less cramps I get. Also multi vitamins seems to help. I start taking these a day before a race and also in the morning before the race. Will try Dingo recepie, tho

Good news for me at least - at my local enduro park I took a 5l bottle with me and conciously tried to drink a lot while there and used about 4L though the going was not too difficult though it was hot.
Afterwards no headache - which was brilliant! Still odd that I got the headaches 1-3 hours after the events though... I'm thinking any events I shoudl being 5L and a camelbak, maybe a camelbak with a higher flow valve may help as well as even the 'mega flow' bite valve I have isn't brilliant TBH, or maybe somehow get the valve easier to access, is it possible to do no handed??

Hey, Im a 07 FSR450 owner and new here but,I'm also a mountain biker for about 25 years and have battled dehydration all my life.getting a recovery drink(not a sports drink) from your local supplement store is a must.
Has it ever taken 2 days to recover from a long day on the bike?Ever walked around the next day with a cloudy head or tunnel vision? These (recovery drinks) eliminate this problem. They have all the electrolytes you need and will help fuel you up if your riding the next day. You'll wake up the next day feeling refreshed insted of (dare I say it ..........old) Do your ride, consume 1/2 hour(no later)after you are done. It's critical that you drink it right after your effort. After long efforts your body will absorb carbs and electorlytes 30% faster than it normally will, but this effect only lasts about 45 min.It also helps to drink one before you ride. Also ,beer and coffee are diaretics. They will not dehydrate you but they will prevent your body from absorbing water. ie: you wake up in the morning and drink two cups of coffee before a ride, then you decide that it's a hot day so you will drink a litre(I'm Canadian)of water.......You might absorb some but most will go right through you and end up on the forest floor.Firefighters will thank you your body won"t. My two cents |

Ditto on the above,, and also on the caffine withdraw too.. I end up trying to reduce or eleminate my caffine during the week to lessen the effect of none on ride day.. It works in summer..
