Looking into getting a job in the oil fields. How is the riding West of Oke city?

Flat..... Actually Draper in OKC is as far west as I've gotten in OK, it's not to bad, they had the enduro there last year. Where exactly will you be moving, gasser? Clinton...Elk City? That far west there really is little to come by except for motocross tracks. Oklahoma definitely gets pegged with the stereotype of being flat - and in most areas it is pretty flat - but we actually have a huge variety of terrain here with two mountain ranges (stumpy but full of rocks ).

Oklahoma in general has a great variety of trails and riding areas available. We have everything from sand dunes (Little Sahara...mostly a quad playground) to the Choctaw Nation Trail (all of the rocks, boulders, creeks and hill climbs you could want). In between those two extremes are places like the Stillwater 500 and Draper ORV that have trails that have single track. Davis is very rocky with lots of embedded rocks and elevation change. Stillwater is my personal favorite because it has a little bit of everything.

Unless you plan to work on actual rigs themselves, there are lots and lots of oilfield jobs out of the Oklahoma City area which would get you within a shorter range of a lot more riding areas. My husband works for an oilfield service company and he works out of Yukon, OK.

I hoped you'd chime in here...FWIW I grew up in NE Oklahoma, think Gruber, Scipio, Wolf Den etc and compared to where I grew up- OKC & west is flat out there...but I hadn't spent a lot of time out west. A few trips to Elk City for MX was all I had to go by

Well the western part is definitely flat. Your part and the SE part have the nice riding. I just want him to know that moving here wouldn't be the end of his offroad riding career...he might just have to drive back east to get to the good stuff

I'm looking for some job where I can get a week or two off every 4-6 weeks so I can spend time with family back in Tennessee. I would be happy to end up getting work anywhere from Louisiana to the Texas pan handle.

Many oil field jobs work 7 on and 7 days off, or two weeks on and two weeks off, or 28 and 28. (especially in the Gulf of Mexico, or overseas).

Depending on what sort of oil field job you are looking for, there are a lot of "normal" oil field jobs that have opened up with the surge in domestic production in the oil and gas industry in a swath from west of Fort Smith all the way back east to Russellville.
