Stock Chain on 2011 SD300 ?
I was asking my honda dealer about a master link for my chain , and I told him I thought it was a DID chain and he said I needed to know the specific chain (not just size & if its a oring or not) because they make alot of different ones and sometimes the dimensions may be off just a little.
So Is that true ? And does anybody know what the stock chains where that came on the 2011 sixdays 300's . Probably a lot of worry over nothing ,but I'd rather be safe than sorry. |

Your dealer is right. You can look close at your sideplates to see the manufacturer's logo, but that doesn't tell you what model of chain you have. The only standards are pitch distance and roller length (chain width).
Pin length, pin diameter, side plate thickness and even roller diameter vary to create different strength chains. These vary between models with the same manufacturer so you can't say "I have a DID 520". You've got to know it's DID 520VM for example. Most manufacturers list their dimensions so you can measure your chain details and work backwards. The tough part is that you need to "break" your stock chain to get every measurement. Most guys wear out the stock chain and get the spare link when buying their replacement chain. Even a master link uses a press-on sideplate. You need a tool for this.

Thanks,.
I bought a kit from super sprox and was going to put the chain off the 11 on my 08 ,and use my new chain with spockets on the 11 . I guess now I'll put the new chain on the 08 , and sprockets on the 11 with the stock chain. Seems like less trouble. |

My '10 has a Regina, with no master link.

The 2011 six days have the same. Mine has been holding up fine too! Mind you I put a lot of effort into keeping it well maintained.

I got over 2000kms out of my stock chain. The chain was in better condition than the sprockets. Replaced it with a DID 520VM and Stealthy 50T rear.

I had a Regina on my old KTM 450 as well. That chain lasted for 3 years on my bike and is still in service on a friends KDX.
Regina makes some good stuff. I would buy another one when the time comes to replace it.

HA , I know!.
I still haven't gotten it quite where I want it. The 08 is just so comfortable ,Like an old shoe . Nothing wrong with it at all. I guess thats the problem of having two bikes. I may race the 11 at crosstrails anyway. I'm gonna play with the jetting alittle today if things let me. |
