Lightbulb Interest in Barnett Clutch Baskets?

I sent my broken clutch basket to Barnett for them to review. I also contacted Rekluse and Wiseco but they didn't return my message.

The result was that Mark at Barnett told me they have no quick matches, i.e. the CR250 basket, but would consider manufacturing them if there was demand. A nice feature of the Barnett basket is the stainless inserts on the fingers that resist wear and grooving.

Since clutch baskets are a wear item and folks will need to replace them as they get grooved, it seems that adequate demand for an aftermarket basket would be sufficient.

If you would be interested in having Barnett make baskets for our bikes, please send Mark an email at info@barnettclutches.com and let him know that there is interest.

I sent it in already and they have already returned it saying that they will consider making them if they get more demand. Did Mike reply to you?

Someone named Chris Taylor responded to my e-mail.

Judging by the response here, I would say there is no demand.

Sorry guys,
I would be interested but cannot afford to buy one just yet as I am trying to support a wife and two boys , a horse habit(wife) and a motorbike habit(mine). My 3 year old is now starting to ride so I guess I will be even poorer.
Cheers Mark

Sounds like a standard response to new requests.

I'm sure there is plenty of interest in having it as an available option but the real market for it is another story like many GG after market parts. GG riders seem to be a really thrifty bunch compared to how the KTM guys throw money at their bikes. If it aint broke don't fix it.

The good thing I think (without checking every year part #) is that clutch basket is most likely the same for a many years of 250/300's. Who knows the answer to this? EDIT: part # from 2000-2004 is different from the 2005-2010. It's possible the newer basket might work in the older bikes and is just a slight redesign but I'm not sure. It would be great to be able to tell Barnet that the same clutch basket is used in 10 or more model years of bikes. I'll see what I can find out.

That alone may make it worth while for Barnett to make it.

The fact that GG doesn't change main component things much from one year to the next could at least possibly give some incentive to after market companies to make these parts and recoup the R&D costs...(hear that Rekluse).

If GG starts changing things like KTM does we would be screwed for aftermarket stuff unless a ton more bikes were sold. Don't think either is gonna happen anytime soon.
