Chain and sprockets
Hey guys just a quickie can anyone tell me how many teeth are on the standard sprockets of my 2000 model ec 250? Also what the advantages of an o ring chain over a non oring chain?

13/48 should have been stock on a EC250 and a EC300. 13/49 is very common choice for those bikes as well. I prefer a 50 tooth on the 300 I ride as the meat of the powerband in second gear is perfect for the trails I ride.
It really depends on the conditions you ride in. I guess I would take a look at whats on the bike now and decide if you need to go up or down on the rear from there. As far as the 0-ring chain goes its the only way to go for off-road as they are internally lubricated and sealed with the o-ring. They really need minimum maintenance, compared to a normal none o-ring chain, other then a lite cleaning and a quick shot of chain lube every now and then.

An O ring chain will generally last a lot longer than a non O ring chain. It also means your sprockets will last longer, (unless you are pedantic about replacing your worn chain) because worn chains accelerate sprocket wear. The down side is O ring chains gobble up a bit of horse power, which is why they are now somewhat out of favour with the 250x4 stroke MX guys.
They are dearer, but last longer so may not be dearer in the long run.

Cheers lads very helpful guna take a look whats on her and decide from there as for an o ring chain that is whats on her now so ill get one oF those

Spend the money and get good sprockets. Like Ironman or Stealth and a good quality chain.
I have been running the same chain and sprocket for 2 years. I did replace the front ironman once. |
