what tool to file rings
what is everyone using to file their piston rings?
I'm hoping for an answer I can buy local! I'm thinking a diamond fingernail file??? Or should I break down and get the special tool from summitracing? Current ring gap is .009" or .229mm manual say .4mm Doing the .004 multiplier methods say .2498mm? This is for an ec200

I would use a Dremel tool with the abrasive cutting disc. I would try to use the side of the cutting disc as a face grinding wheel. It should allow you to take off small amounts with control. Clean the ring well to get rid of sharp edges and abrasive dust.

I clamp a flat file in the vise, and run the rings over it until the gap is achieved. Having the file secured allows me to pay attention to the angle of the filing so I don't get an uneven gap.
Not a lot of science, in my opinion, in getting the ring gap set.

It doesn't take much with a hand file to remove the material and the rings are flexible enough that you can use a small file even if it's a little wider than your ring gap. I'm not sure what your 200cc bore is but the 250 is pretty close to 2.5". Rule of thumb is .004" for each inch of bore so minimum for the 250 would be .010". I can't imagine you're too far off for the 200.

Angle grinder freehand.
Sorry I thought we were trying to top each other. Fine file, vice, lots of care and not much poking through.

There is a small tool especially made for filling the rings. It has a small handle with a disc in the center. You put the ring on top, turn handle and you are done.
