Default Melbourne GG rider in need of Exhaust help"

Hi All, jumped into a 2009 EC450 a few weeks back, awesome bike, but she's a bit on the loud side.. Its ok on Enduro tracks, but I live in "Greeny" territory, so after some help to shut the thing up.

I have repacked the og muffler, slightly crushed down the baffle and re worked the hole pattern, but I want to go further.

Im looking for stock DRZ or XR 400 noise levels.

" if they cant here me, they cant report me"

Any help greatly appreciated!,!,!

Default EC450 quiet exhaust mod

So here is a pic of the baffle mod my local Gasser mechanic suggested.

Baffle starts life as a round tube, basically heated it up, squashed it in like a star, then drilled some holes so the redirected gases can get out. This helped 'a little'

Exhaust 101- taking energy out of exhaust gas by making it change direction will reduce its S.P.L.

Now, I was told not to change it too much od the 450 will run like crap, anyone else been told that?

Cheers.

Try a DB Dawg. http://www.hyderacing.com/db_dawg.htm

You may be able to score one from Amazon or see if they will ship Down Under.

Anything that restricts it will silence it. Anything that restricts it will also impede on the engines ability to rev (to a certain degree). Anything that restricts the engines ability to run as planned could have an impact on the fuel injection AF ratios.

True, as long as I dont go to far, but with an F.I engine, the map snsor, or air flow sensor should pick this up and adjust accordingly??

not sure if they do one specifically for GG but if you email them sergio@swazicowboyz.com he will be able to assist with getting one that will fit

In a closed loop system, for sure..

I admit I don't know a whole lot about the GG's fuel management system, but at a guess I would say its probably open loop.

"The fuel injected is determined by the RPM and throttle position, derived from fuel injector pulse width numbers stored in the fuel maps, and is trimmed for environmental conditions due to air temperature, air pressure and engine temperature."

Default EC450 quieter now..

O.k, so I hve had a result.

Photobucket sucks arse! So sorry , no pics....

Did the baffle mods as mentioned before, repacked the O.E.M muffler, but got hold of a 22mm (id) stainless 45 degree pipe, and fitted a section inside the baffle outlet.

Results... 73db at idle, and 86db at 5000 rpm (no load) she still has a bark when you are on it, but over all, much more sedate 👍

**NOTE** db readings are from my ipad with the 1/10th deciblel app.
