Default Hmmm

I have managed to confuse myself:

I have reviewed the Microfiche and I can see that I can purchase the kickstand mounting bracket, but I do not need one as mine if fine.

I need to replace/duplicate the tab that comes off of the frame that the roller mounting bolt goes through.

Did I read that I can purchase the tab to have it welded on, or do I just need to go and reproduce one?

thanks

J

Sometimes the tab and roller stay with the bracket when it breaks. Othertimes the whole lot goes somewhere in the bush. Either way, fabbing up a new (stronger) tab and then mounting onto that should reduce the likelihood of it breaking again.

Got it, thank you.

Your guys thoughts on having it welded without removing the engine? Maybe just removing swing arm (and fuel tank of course!).

I do not have easy access to another GasGas to make a template for the kickstand bracket.

I am guessing I can just make my own that is approximately the correct size and shape? Once it is installed/welded in place I can mark and drill the hole for the chain roller bolt.

This was my fix. Welded a piece of flat stock to a piece of angle iron. The flat stock takes up the space of the broken off piece. The angle iron holds on the inside of the frame. Been working just fine.

Wow, so the part pictured is not welded to the frame?

Nope, it's not welded to the frame. Short of pulling the swing arm and the engine I couldn't figure out a way to get a good angle on the MIG to weld on a new piece to the frame.

What I made gets held in place by the chain roller bolt. The angle iron catches the inside lip of the frame and keeps the chain roller bolt from being able to move towards the rear of the bike. I did have to shorten the piece of tubing that goes through the chain roller or I wouldn't have been able to get the bolt started because the shock linkage is in the way. I made it 1/8" shorter, the same as the thickness of the angle iron.
