Nothing found so far that has any detail.
However I note that Amsoil suggest between 50:1 and 100:1. I still think each application must have an optimum mix beyond which there is no gain. What that mix is, is another thing. I found a paper on marine engine lubrication that found increased wear with too much oil. They used a total loss system like a small 2 stroke but as they were large 2 stroke diesels I don't think it means anything.

Hi,

I am using Motul Dexron III automatic gearbox oil.
Have been a trials hangaround for a long time and everybody I know uses automatic gearbox oil to the trials bike's.
When I bought my EC250 it came with automatic gearbox oil in it so I have continued with it and I think it work's out fine.
Is there anyone else who use this kind of oil ?

Lech

Ian, a 2-stroke diesel is a completely different animal.

Some people run ATF, but the type "F", mainly because its cheap. I tried it awhile back, but it seemed too light and gave the bike a notchy shift feel. The trials motor I'm familiar with is in my wifes Pampera, like the older JTX 250. This has a completely different, longer throw feel to it than the EC transmission, and a smaller clutch, so maybe ATF wouldn't matter there. I have had the best performance with Shell Rotella 5W-40W, in everything I've used it in.

Yeah I know, I did say. But it proves it is possible for too much oil to be a bad thing.

I beleive this is what Jack was referring to:

http://www.maximausa.com/technical/oilmigration.html

Basically states that ratio is application and size specific. A 250cc enduro bike used in competition should see 32:1 to 40:1, a 125cc 32:1 max. Backs up my results.

Thanks for all the reply's Guy's, especially Ian and Glenn, found your last post with the link to Maxima Racing really interesting Glenn

After reading through the various posts rightly or wrongly I've opted for Putoline MX 7 @ 40:1 for green laning and 32:1 when I try her in H & H.
I'm going to try Motul 5100 fully synthetic in the gearbox as well.

Thanks once again Guys

Brilliant Forum

Looks like they tested it - will be 40:1 for me in future.
