Lowering 45mm Open Chamber Forks

I am replacing the fork seals on my 45mm Marzoochi's and have noticed a black plastic spacer that sits below the fork spring. Could this spacer but cut shorter to lower the forks? Has anyone done this before?

I haven't been inside a set of 45mm Zokes, so can't comment on the plastic part or how it works in relation to the top out setup of the fork.

If I was going to lower it I would open the carts up and install an internal spacer to limit the travel. You also need to consider the spring length (and rate) if doing this if you don't replace with shorter springs you end up with substantial preload. Ideally you'd go up a rate as well to control bottoming as the shorter stroke will be more inclined to finding the end of its travel sooner.

Thanks. I got the cartridge removed and disassembled. I will add the topout spacer that is the same length as what I cut out of the black spring spacer. The spring rate shouldn't be a problem for me, I'm only 125lbs soaking wet.

yes, just make sure you have a degree of preload on the springs. And it would be worth reducing the oil gap to about 90mm (adding more oil) to improve bottoming resistance.

You can drop the yokes down the forks a little bit to lower it also. Just remember you are changing your geometry, so you need to set the rear sag to suit.

Thanks. I cut 1" out of the spacer and raised the forks in the triple clamps 1/2" as well. I lowered the rear with the longer dog bones for now until I do a shock service and then I will add the proper spacer. The bike sits noticeably lower and inspires a lot more confidence to me as a shorter rider when you have to dab a foot. Obviously I do notice a difference in catching things on the trail that want to rip your feet off the pegs.
