Kamikazi Stand and Lowering links
I've not long fitted lowering links to my Gasser
After doing so I noticed that not only did I have the self raising stand but that the stand was now slightly too long, meaning that you only had to breathe on the bike for the stand it flip up. The fix is very simple Remove the sidestand and use a blowtorch to heat the kinked section Straighten it in a vice whilst still hot That's it, you'll now find that not only is the stand the right length but it no longer flips up on it's own Sweet and easy |

This sounds like an easy fix. I'd like to see a photo or two if possible? I have also lowered mine and had exaclty the same problem with bike standing straight up. I took my kickstand to the neiborhood welder and had him cut it down and add a larger foot. I took Matt's advice to solve the " Kickstand from Hell" problem. But I did dull four drill bits to acheive it. I think it was Alive...
Also, does the kickstand not stick out and catch stuff now that it is straight? Thanks, Bob

U are right about not wasting time. 16 minutes is damn good at your age. I have a hunch that the majority or at least 50% percent of us are forty or better. Funny tho, my mind and my body are always at odds on this subject. Didn't start offroad riding 'till I was 54 and can't get enough of it. The learning curve is mostly over now, so I hope not too many more bad get offs.
U have come up with fix number three for the "evil one". And U say it won't retract on it's own now? Does it rub on your plastic panel when up? Great Mod, and free!

I had the same question. I'm having my bike lowered this winter and my side panel is already getting damaged from the side stand.

Yes it does hit the panel unfortunately but it did that before I straightened it too
I'm going to put a stop in place by way of a bolt inside the stand bracket, bit too late for me as the panel is already damaged There is already a small hole in the bracket in exactly the place it's needed, I've just got to enlarge it so that a good size bolt will fit. PS My learning curve is over too I started 2 years ago at the ripe age of 43 and it's taken me that long to figure I'm far better riding with my eyes shut so I don't keep cacking my pants and rolling of the throttle at the wrong moment or hitting the breaks. |
