Piston damage - exhaust valve barrel
Hi all,
Posted a little back about piston scoring and finally got around to dismantling the engine. While I was removing the exhaust/power valve I noticed the part of the cylinder that houses the left exhaust valve has broken. Has anyone encountered this before? I can't seem to find any information on this. I intend to reinstall the exhaust valve system once I have cleaned it all up to see if it still functions despite the damage, however, i fear it's a ticking Timebomb to be running like this. Is this a new cylinder required sort of damage? You can see the damage here and attached, photo taken through exhaust port. https://photos.app.goo.gl/6LXHzNDeiDAEdCZU7 |

I would not worry about that small casting defect unless you see crack in other places. How did the cylinder plating look? If it bothers you you can have that port repaired by any of the companies that do cylinder replating. US Chrome or Millennium Technologies are good choices in the US.

Totally normal.
Just a casting abnormality. |
