Well they will both have alot more power than your CRF250X but a good bike to jump up to. The 250 is rev happy and super fn to ride and I find I can ride it longer than the 300 due to the lack of bottom end compared to the 300 but is still a great bottom end power.

Both bikes are still fairly smooth to and hook-up like crazy. I am going to have to say 250.

What kind of terrain are you riding?
How old are you?
what skill level are you?
I've got an 06 300 that i mostly trail ride in NH. tight twisty rooty rocky terrain ... I'm looking at getting a 200... Rode my buds 08 ktm 200 and I was faster and found the bike easier and more fun to ride. When a 300cc 2t lights up in the woods you better know what your doing!! I picked up an 02 husky 125 just to see what a 125 would be like. Little bikes don't seem to wear me out like the 300. If I dig the 125 thing I may get a newer one. Right now I'm figuring I'll be on a ktm or gasser 200 or the tiddler sometime before the middle of the summer and the 300 will be down the road. If I was doing it all over again I'd have gotten a 200 ... I say give the 250 a shot
46 yr old c rider. 300 is good for chugging through the woods though, be careful when you start getting happy with the throttle

I'm just the opposite. I'm 56 and have an 07 KTM200 and an 07 EC300. The little KTM is a blast to ride but I find it's light switch power to be very tiring.

ive never ridden the gg250, but if you are doing a lot of tight stuff id take the 300 over all the 250s ive ridden, just because of the bottom end. i rarely use the top end, and all the 250s ive ridden so far had, as ud_luz put it, ligtswitch power, either full bore or nothing.

The GG 250 is awesome, still smooth, you just trade some of the 300s low end yank for a bit more top. Plenty of low end but not too much, works for me.

The 300 is the go for the trail, put it on the rain setting if you are not up to controlling wheel lift mid corner with trees around.
It is awesome to ride and has all the power you will ever need on tight s/t or even not so tight s/t.
Never ridden a 250 except an Rmx and the GG 300 kills it in all respects.
Cheers Mark

I´ve just changed from 250 to 300, and i found them very similar on 1/3 off the trottle, very smooth and answer direct! But when terrains opens up, and i pull up the trottle on the300, sweet jesus
