Question 2000 EC300 Clutch

Hi Guys,
Newbie to the forum. Having migrated from a WRF450 to a EC300 I have a couple of questions on the clutch.
I do some roadwork in the UK, occasionally having to sit in traffic. If I hold the clutch in for any length of time in gear it will just start to burn the clutch and stall. Then have to put into neutral and re-start, pretty enbarassing at lights and islands. Is this normal?
Also the bike won't go into gear cold, or will do but with some persuading. Fine when warm however. Are the two linked? Clutch worn too much?
Any help would be appreciated

Sounds to me like your master cylinder from your clutch maybe bleeding back a bit. Have you tried changing the fluid and/or bleeding? I just ride off road so never sit in traffic.

Some people have better luck than others starting in gear, I usually can no problems, of course when you are in a bind thats the time it won't. It could be one and the same problem, the master leaking back a bit. Its an easy fix and have heard some folks say to do it a couple of times a year anyways and costs next to nothing so its worth a shot.

I didn't notice you said start in gear cold, thats a whole different animal and I don't even try that. Starting cold you should just put it into N and save yourself the trouble since you are at the garage and need to let it warm up a minute anyways.

Thanks for the reponses.
Clutch is hydraulic and I haven't tried to start in gear from cold. I'll re-bleed the clutch over the weekend and see if that cures the problem.

[QUOTE= occasionally having to sit in traffic. If I hold the clutch in for any length of time in gear it will just start to burn the clutch and stall.

Why not just put it in neutral when sitting, you can then do things with your left hand

Also the bike won't go into gear cold, :[/QUOTE]

Are you warming the engine up a bit before putting into gear ?

My ec300 easily goes into first when the engine is stone cold or hot. and does so also if I don't use the clutch
