Default Anyone fitted a carb? & starter clutch question

Hi

I have a 2005 wild 450 HP which has had a replacement frame (A rubbish one) I took it out for a ride and decided that because of the low ground clearance on the frame its only fit for breaking.

I believe its the same engine as fitted to the bikes.

The engine wont wind over fast enough to fire although the starter doesnt stall out. I have tried a replacement starter and jump starting and its just the same. I dont have a kick start for the engine but it starts no problem with a bump.

I have read starting issues are common with these. Is the problem usually the clutch or is their another soloution?

It runs but not as well as it should it seems very rich. It has a techlusion TFI module but I have wound that back to the stock position and its still the same.

I imagine it has a sensor fault but the dash is missing and the wiring is a taped up mess so I do not know where to begin. Has anyone fitted a carb to a 450? Failing that does anyone have a wiring diagram or some pointers they can share?

I plan to use the suspension and brakes on my other quad but it seems a shame to see the engine go to waste since from what i read they are good going things.
Thanks for any advice
Scott

I really don't have any experience with the Wild 450, but it would seem as though there are enough 450 mx bikes in various states of disrepair that a carb swap from one of them wouldn't be too hard. Just a random thought. Let us know if you try this, how it works, etc......

Even when everything is correct they can be tricky to start. Everything really does need to be spot on to start easily. Mixture obviously and valve clearances, compression etc. There's an auto decomp that could cause issues I imagine. You're right they turn over slow which is probably what makes them sensitive. That said when all set correct they should start up in a couple of presses of the button.

Dunno about the quad but on the bike 450 you would need to fool the ecu about the injector and fuel pump or anything that is likely to throw a code. As all the ignition advance is controlled by the ecu it would be quite difficult to find a different ignition system that fits just right. Seems a lot of work and probably money to me!

Or you could try the ECU and carb from the 450 Pampera , I'm so friggin close to going down that route myself it's not funny. Let us know how you go.
