2010 300 90 hrs. Rings or Piston also?
2010 90 fairly mellow hours. Tearing the bike down and figured I will give the top-end some love.
Replace Piston and Rings or just the Rings? Thanks J

I did both after a lot more hours than that. Like you, just "for love".
I already had the parts before tear down and it turned out that the piston spec'd fine. I had a new one, so I installed it. Cheap insurance, I figured. |

I always do the piston and rings together. Its not that much more $$ or time wise, considering you have to pull all the gaskets, drop coolant, blah blah blah. In the end cheap insurance.
In my 2010 300 the piston was slappin around at 75hrs although the ring gap only measured in around 0.5mm I'd also suggest throwing a fresh little end bearing in too. Again, just for cheap insurance. |

Cool
Suggestions on a top end kit? Would be nice to order all the parts in one kit.
Wossner makes a kit I believe. Thoughts?

A German made forged piston, what more could you ask for. Then you just need a base gasket or 2, as pulling off the head isn't necessary. |

Agree with Noobs. I have run both the stock Vertex and Wossner kits. I was really impressed with the wossner. Good quality at the right price point. Freely available from several sources and generally comes with piston, rings, clips, and pin. Throw in a couple base gaskets, little end bearing and you're done.
If you've got a few hours on the bike I'd probably do the head o-rings as a precaution. Also like to have spare water jacket gasket, pv gaskets, exh o rings, and flywheel gasket on hand just incase anything gets torn during pulldown or needs replacing. A smear of grease or gasket goop makes for easy removal next time and better odds of re-using them. Obviously don't bother trying to reuse the base gaskets or head orings (if removed). Ebay has several kits |
