Default 06 250 Jetting Advice

Current setup:
main: 182
Pilot: 43
Neddle: N1EF Clip #2 position
Throttle valve #7

Bike starts easy and idles nicely. This jetting produced minimal spooge and smoke running Motul 710 at 40:1 at 40-60 F, 1500 ft and below. Nice linear power no strong hit. Plug was a nice chocolate brown.

Last ride was up at Elkins still seemed to run pretty well still. Slightly more spooge though. Temps were in the 70s F, 3500-6000 ft. Plug is now pretty oily and black.

Typical riding for the summer and fall will be anywhere from mid 60s in the morning to 80s or 90s and anywhere from 1000ft to 9000ft.

I have the following currently to work with:
Main: 172, 175, 178
Pilot: 40, 48
Needle: DDK

Let me know if you think there are any other jets I should pick up. Bike still currently starts on the choke in the morning and then after its warmed up a single good kick to get it going again.

Also when I bought the bike I checked the see what jets were in the carb it was a real pain to get the carb back on. It was like I didn't have enough room to work with. Anyone have a good procedure to make it easy?

You probably want a 180 main and 45 pilot too.

i almost never pull the carb. loosen clamps, rotate carb to remove top and slide. rotate carb the other way to remove bowl and access jets. sometimes the float pin will slide out so be careful.

also the drain/main jet cover sometimes hits the sprocket guard. i just twist harder the rubber intake and airbox boot have enough give...

Thanks for the tips Stainlesscycle. I didn't think it was going to work at first but after a min of pushing things around and adjusting, it worked!

Put in the 180 main in last night. Road around on the driveway seemed like its snappier up top now. Pulled the plug when I was done, not oily in the center at all. Have a ride on Sunday so we'll see how it goes.

I wanted to change the pilot but the screws that hold the float bowl on the bottom, some of them the heads are stripping out. So I didn't want to mess with it till I had some replacements. I wonder if there is enough room for an allen head, anyone done this? I have an assortment.

allen heads fit. i've converted some carbs to allen - it definitely stops the stripping problem...
