Default New bike!

Hi guys I have just bought my 2nd Gas Gas and my first ever brand new bike!

I took it out with the green lane crew on Sunday had a brilliant time. However, I noticed some clutch squall for the first time too. I've never had this on my old 05 Gasser. It wasn't that bad, but it did it 3 or 4 times, mainly when following someone up muddy banks and feather the clutch in 2nd to keep it going.

Firstly is this normal? And secondly, I have used dextron 3 ATF in my 05 gasser for 2 years to pretty good effect. Is this still good to put in the 2014 bike? Or is there a better recommendation?

Cheers

Andy

Default New bike!

Congrats on the new bike! I currently ride an 05 and I'm looking to get my first brand new bike in a couple of months as well. Not sure about ATF but I run Rotella T in my bike with no clutch noise and I have a rekluse. Also just from reading on the forums clutch squall seems to be pretty normal on these bikes.

I run the Rotella with an auto rekluse. I had the noise too until I installed a Rekluse basket, then no noise. With your bike at idle, put your bike in neutral without touching the clutch lever, you will hear a high pitch whine. Now, leave the bike in neutral and pull in the clutch, the noise stops. Thats normal for a GG with the stock basket.

I run the Amsoil 0W40 full synthetic. I do have a Rekluse 1.0 & Rekluse basket as well though. Clutch squall appeared in the 2010/2011 models I believe and with out fail an aftermarket basket of any brand has fixed it but others have drilled the sock setup for flow with good results as well. 2010-2012 models almost always had some squall, but squall chatter has died down in the latest years so far.

My '13 has it too. It's most pronounced on uphills from a stop. That's on a bike with the "as shipped" trans lube and about 2 hours riding time on it. I don't think it hurts anything.

I've had mine go through periods of lots of noise, and then can't say I've noticed it much lately. I actually think the first ride on fresh oil it tends to make more noise, and then as the oil breaks in it quiets up. I'm using a Amsoil synthetic ATF. Super Shift.

Cheers for all the feedback guys, I'm back out again this weekend, I've put some ATF in it, I'll see how she handles. Like someone said, it really only happened when going up hill from a dead start!

I've had very good results with Motul trans oil 10w30. After my frist oil change, clutch drag and noise was extremely bad with my normal oil of choice (Rotella) the motul solved my problem. It even cured the clutch drag on my sherco trials bike which everyone says can't be fixed without basket mods.
