Lightbulb Considering lighter flywheel on my EC

Hay all,

I have a 2005 EC 250 (converted to a 300).
My ignition wires come out of the left side case at about the 10 O' clock position tword the front.

My 2004 MC 250 is just a firecracker !!! I want more of that from my EC, so I am thinking about getting a lighter flywheel. The MC has the exact same ignition wire location as the EC.

What size flywheel should i expect my MC to have ?

What size flywheel should I get for the EC ?

How much should it cost for me to swap flywheels in my EC ?

What part numbers will I need to order to do this swap ?

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood ?

I guess thats about all the questions I have for now.

As far as I have read on this topic the MC and EC with a 2k2 ignition should be the same. If you have both why dont you just pull off the covers and look for yourself?

Default I dont know why...

I guess I thought that flywheels might look the same even if they are very different.

Well if it is different eaither your EC has a flywheel weight or the MC is a different flywheel. You should still be able to see a physical difference.

That looks just like my 2k2 ignition.

Dave some of the difference may be in the weight on the other end of the crank. My 99 had the largest of the ones I have seen. The 02 I had had a half moon one and I suspect my current bike 07 has the half moon or less. GGman your bike looks nice and clean.

It sounds like your EC300 has a 2K-2. The MC either has a 2K-2 or a 2K-1 which is the same thing but no lighting coil. The flywheels are exactly the same. As PEB states the difference is in the counterweight behind the primary pinion. The EC300 has an 8oz ecentric balance weight and the MC has nothing but a spacer on the crankshaft. The 300 also will spin up a bit slower because its a 300, not a 250. If you really want it to spin up quicker you can try and remove the weight and see how it feels. Also, jetting it a bit different will make it pull harder, more abrupt, and through the gears faster.

Default Thanks, How hard is it to...

How hard is it to remove that weight from the crank pinion and replace it with the spacer PEB & GMP are talking about?

I am not really willing to go way deep into a working motor, just to make small changes to the power delivery characteristics. I hoped I could do a quick parts swap and let 'er rip.

It looks like I will have to wait this one out.

Easy. Remove the brake pedal, kickstarter, clutch cover and case and clutch bskt. Crank pinion nut and primary gear, thread on nut is reverse thread, you can have the weight machined or replaced with a mc spacer.
