Anyone tried a 14t front sprocket in an EC300?
I have been doing abit of thinking in regards to the gearing on my Gasgas. Currently it has the 13/48 combo on it. At 70km/h, transfer sections and sand riding it feels abit high in the rpm range. For the sake of an easy test, I could throw a 14t front on and see the difference.
Anyone running a similar combo, or is this just a torque killer? 2018 ec300 |

To clear the chain slider, I had to remove the swingarm axle and pull back the swingarm to install the gear. Then put back the swingarm and axle. Sure help with the road speed after I changed the rear to a 42T. |

Ah great tip there. Definitely going to throw a 14t in the next order

I think a 14 may not fit on some of the older GG bikes.

The link I posted is a 14T on my 1998 EC250. So it worked on mine.
Never felt the need to try one on my 2002 EC300. On the trails it is plenty fast for my fat butt. Cheers |

I tried to put one on my 2000 XC300 and I did not want to grind on the swingarm to make it fit.

with a 14t front, wouldn't you be better trading the bike for a BMW? lol
my preferred gearing (for the riding I believe a GG was designed for) was 12/48 and i could still get 110km/h the only time you would want more than that would be Erzberg Prologue!

Maybe less about “top speed”, but more about comfortable cruising at 70kph. Right now it revs just a touch more at that speed. I came off a 450 4t before this, so maybe I'm expecting too much

I agree, when you have to wring it's neck on those sections it's no fun. Reading the post i would think it would be easier (no grinding) to go from 13/48 (standard) to 13/45 or even 44 (this is almost the same as 14/48) you can get really stuck in here and even see what will result in less chain wear https://www.gearingcommander.com/

Occasionally we do trips that are more open and fast and a 14 would help compensate without changing chains.
A larger counter shaft sprocket will reduce chain wear too. |
