2004 EC200 Speedo Problem

Hi everyone, im new to this forum, i look forward to hearing to some of your replies. As the title says i have a 04 EC200 but i have an issue with the speedo. Does the speedo stay on constantly or does it turn off? Mine will not turn on. It was on and after i went for a ride i noticed it was still on after i had finished. The next day i came down to the shed and it was still on. Im guessin gthe battery is gone but should they stay on?

They stay on, at least mine did.

Since the mileage was not adjustable I replaced mine with a TrailTech unit.
