cheapy dc?
i want to run full lights on my 07 ec300, i have to 2k2 stator, which i already have overworked with my headlight/tail/brake.
(see 07 speedo post) can i just put in a rectifier /cap to run the horn, guages and signal flasher? im not sure i even understand a rectifier. trailtechs website says dc stator not included, but i thought a rectifier was to convert ac to dc. i already have a street plate(dmv didnt even hesitate) but if i get pulled over, im boned for lack of other required street goodies. and how much energy can a capacitor store, i mean (not an electrician by any means) it doesnt change the output , just saves it for high demand situations id imagine, ie horn or signals on top of ignition and enduro lights.. i appreciate any help

Depending on how much power consumption you plan on needing. I believe the TrailTech, and other full wave rectifiers, need to have a floating ground to function properly. There are other type of rectifiers that do not. I assume most normal street bike applications do not use a floating ground system. I need to dig out my pictures and make a post on my stator upgrade and floating ground modification. It's not THAT hard once you learn what is needed and how to do it. Good luck. Jeff. So.Cal. |

well, ill be running a (trailtech) endurance probably, with flushmount led blinkers, i have a 35 watt headlight and a 15 watt taillight as is, and my stator is rated at 40 i think..
ive read the post about floating the ground and modifying the stator, but i dont want to risk farking up my brand new toy, yet anyway. im not even sure if i need dc, but i havent seen any flasher units that operate on ac, and either way, ill need a little more reserve power.

I believe the stock EC (2-stroke) flasher is for an AC system. After I did my
floating ground mod and installed the battery. My stock flasher did not work. I replaced it with one from the local auto store. I had to swap around the three wires in the connector to get them in the right orientation for the auto flasher to work properly though. I think most of the GG electronics are made by Leonelli. They have a web site with descriptions of how their stuff works. Depending on what you want to do with your GasGas. You may not need, or want to go DC. All your lights and, with the right one, horn will work off AC. As far as I know, only a cooling fan, and LED lights need to be DC. My stock EC horn had a small rectifier mounted next to it in the head light shell. It should be powerful enough to power LED's, a fan or a speedo. Good hunting. Jeff So. Cal. |

Here is the linkie for the Leonelli information. Look at pages 20-21 for the flashers, horns and Rectifiers / Regulators. http://www.leonelli.com/english/general_catalog_05.pdf I think the GasGas Rectifier is Ref: 080.B. You may need the voltage regulator Ref.: 090.A to with it. The AC flasher is Art. 355 Mod B. and there is two versions of the AC horn and one of the DC type. Hope this helps. i honestly dont like going to my local dealer, his labor is too high, and parts are outrageous. he told me it would cost me 200 to enduro lite my ec. it cost me less than 50 to do it myself.
the link you gave me isnt quite right either, u know it says english, buts its in spanish. im gonna switch out english for spanish and see if they switched em.

I did a "copy/Paste" from the .pdf file I was reading. And it was in English......strange..... Try surfing the web site. It should be easy to find the English version. I wouldn't bother with the Leonelli flasher. Mine died shortly after getting the bike and I replaced it with a $3 2prong auto flasher and has worked for 2yrs now. Apparently its used on a lot of 2T scooters (AC) as well and its a lot more than what I paid for a replacement.
I took the Leonelli piece apart to see what was wrong and it was full of water. Basically a plastic case with a cardboard bottom. I don't think the new one is water tight either but I ziptied it in an upright position so it would drain. |

You still need a certain amount of power and if you add up the loads the 35W 2K-2 is not going to make it. My wife's 250 Pampera has the AC/ halfwave DC system with the Leonelli rectifier for the fan, horn, and flashers, but it also has a much larger ignition.

I would tend to agree with Glenn. The man knows his stuff.
My 2002 XC300 with the 2K2 stator running in AC mode had enough power to run the stock headlight, tail light and honk the horn as well as use the turn lights. As long as you did not try using them all at once. For a real street legal bike. It could be lacking as well as possibly dangerous. You don't want to be suddenly without lights on the highway or stopped at some busy intersection in town. And that is why I converted my XC into an EC with the 2K3 stator, floated the ground. Installed the trailtech rectifier and a sealed 1.2Ah lead acid battery in the air box. Now, if I am going down a long steep rocky trail in the dead of night and stab a little too much rear brake & kill the motor. It won't leave me in pitch blackness wondering where the trail went. Or like the time I forgot to turn on the gas petcock. Took off for home and had the motor starve for fuel leaving me stranded in the middle of a 6 lane street during rush hour here in Los Angeles. Keep an eye out for a used 2K3 stator or maybe offer a trade for your 2K2. Someone here on the list might want to swap with you. Cheers, Jeff |
