i too like the flanged japanese style hex heads. unfortunately, they are impossible for us to polish. since 99% of our business is polished stainless, we never got into them.. i've not had much problems with dirt packing into the allens. if you rinse your bike off regularly, it usually comes right out.. allens strip easier? stainless is a lot harder than the mild steel allens you normally see, they do not strip easy. high quality allen wrenches plays a big part of this also. i'm a huge fan of the wera hex plus t handles. extremely well built tools...

The 2010 gassers have the flanged hex head bolts on the engine instead of the allens. Other fasteners are easier to use or get to (ever try to remove or replace the airbox covers on an 07 - 09 bike). Some fasteners need only one tool now not two to remove.
Back to the original thread - I think it's great that we now have these stainless bolt kits available.

I know you do polished for street bikes, but do dirt bike riders want/need polished? It's a dirt bike! They get dirty. I'd rather have the convenience of consistent sizes than polished.

The new KTMs use really cool fasteners: flanged fasteners with both torx (internal) and hex (external) heads on the same bolt. They save weight AND provide dual functionality.

Do that in stainless, and you'd be HUGE.

just a thought.

Could you do them in Zinc Chromate? I know you're stainless cycle, but zinc chromate cycle sounds ok, too.

just a thought. KTM does do a nice job with fasteners.

I just don't see why the allen head bolts on the bike are worth bitching about. I don't know about you guys, and maybe I'm anal about it, but before my bike is serviced its squeaky clean all over. I don't work around dirt. Maybe its a problem if you don't clean the bike well before working on it. How often do you have to remove a primary or clutch cover on the trail that the allens are such a hardship? The stuff on my bike that is likely to see a wrench in the woods is swapped, but only a few things. As far as stripping, the only allen I ever stripped was on my Ducati, a small, soft bolt that was red Loctited. Should not be a problem with good tools and clean prepped fasteners. JMO.

Default Stainless steel allen bolts

I agree with GMP, I switched to allen bolts a long time ago and don't have any problems. The kit sounds good as some of the longer ones are difficult to find individually. I also have used the stainless kit on my vintage bikes and they are excellent. Try getting 12 mm head bolts for a vintage bike, they are all 13 mm these days and don't look right.

OP, do you stock kits for 4T gassers as well (FSR450 specifically)?
