Default 2004 GG pipe fit a 2002 EC250!!

I have sourced a 04 GG pipe very cheap it is nickel plated. Can anyone tell me whether it will easily fit a 2002 EC250, also i have been told that 06 GG pipes are similar to messico in performance but as strong as a FMF, does the 04 GG pipe come into this catergory? i am after mid/top end power. thanks

I think they made the pipe out of thicker guage steel later on in 06. You can fit a 06 pipe to a 02 so you should have no problems.

I don't know if this will be of any help or not....but.
I picked up a new FMF Gnarly pipe off e-bay that said
it was for an 03 - up. I put it on my 2002 XC300.
It did fit...sort of. It took some moderate pressure
to get the bolts to fit the mounts. The pipe that
came off the XC300 was a Fatty, and I believe it
was the OEM stock pipe.
So far I have ridden the '02 with the 03 pipe for
the last couple of years with no issues or cracking.
With all the pre-load I had to apply to get it to fit
I would think it will only be a matter of time till
something has to give. Either the pipe, one of the mounts
or the exhaust spiggot. We will see.

I also swapped the 2002 Fatty from my XC300 to
my 1998 EC250. The lower pipe mount would not
fit. No way, no how. But the rear mount fit rather
well and it fit the TC2 silencer perfect. I rode it
that way for a couple weeks till I put the Messico
back on the '98 EC250.

so to answer your question. Yes it (might) fit if
you are not affraid of breaking something from
having to pressure it into place.
Best bet would be to use the pipe it was designed
to use.
(my 2 cents.)

I have an '07, and a spare GG pipe from an '04. They are exactly the same, part#, fit, guage of steel. In '03, the motor was lowered 8mm in front, so the newer pipe/mounts may need to be adjusted. There might even be enough adjustment in the position of the rear isolator mount, or use of a different mount. It has been done here, PEB put a newer GG pipe on an '01 or '02 300. The GG OEM pipe is a good pipe, linear power with more top end than the FMF Gnarly but the same heavy guage construction. The Hyde combo also fits it perfectly.

Glen, It seems to me that the newer pipes(07+) have a different size inlet than the older ones. I measured and it was a couple mm different. I did indeed put an OEM 06 pipe on my 02 with no mods other than to tweak the lower mounting tab a bit. I have never run the upper mount. The shapes of the pipes are all very similar. My Hyde has fit just fine on the 02 with a Doma and 06 OEM. It also fits fine on the 07 with the new FMF pipe and now the SPES. You have me wondering if I measured the pipe inlets wrong, in which case I needlessly sold a cherry 06 OEM pipe.

Paul,

I had the pipe on the bike for a test fit when I got it. I got it from the guys at T&C here off a leftover '04. I did this so I would have a spare that fit the Hyde.

I just double checked the inlet flange with a spare spigot. This is the same OD, uses the same o-rings as the spigot on the bike. It fits fine, everything is the same. Could this be a mid year '07 change? Mine is an early '07. If so it seems that the spigots must be different as well, but they should be able to be swapped to match the pipe.
